Snow in Örebro
Friday was a good day too! I didn't sleep increadably well because I was up pretty late but it was still good because I went to basketball practice and got woken up by running and working out. I then went to school with a bunch of the other basketballers and we ate lunch together. I was planning on going to pick up my friend Thomas right after I ate lunch and so I walked to the train station, which takes about 15 minutes to walk to from my school. Right as I was waiting in the station I get a text from Thomas saying that his train was delayed an hour and a half and so he wasn't going to get there for a while. I then walked back to school and went to the last part of a class with my friends. Luckily enough for me I was going to meet up with a bit after my school got out anyway so I went to meet her at the train station. The two of us then walked to the other train station here in Örebro and picked Thomas up. He had never been in Örebro before and so we walked into town and looked around a little bit before taking a fika. Something I had never seen in Örebro before was happening right as we walked into town, a demonstration. This particular demonstration was about a student going to one of the local gymnasiums who was going to be sent back to Iraq because he didn't pass the Swedish system to make him a citizen. They were walking up the street chanting "Vi vill har Hassan kvar!" which means "We want Hassan to stay!" it was very interesting, there were police around making sure they weren't going to turn into an angry mob. The group stopped infront of the local government building and chanted there for a little while before dispersing. I had never seen that before but it was pretty cool, it was 200-300 kids fighting for something they believed in, cool stuff. We took a fika in town and then Pauline went home and Thomas and I went back to my house. We settled down in my house and ate a good dinner, mmmm. After dinner Thomas and I and my host mom and host dad had a good long converstation totally in Swedish, Thomas is from Switzerland so he already spoke German and English before coming to Sweden. He thinks that German is fairly close to Swedish so it wasn't increadably hard for him to learn, just like it hasn't been totally hard for me to learn either, it was good to have him around though! After I we went into town in hopes that we would find a party or something to do at least. This did not happen though, we walked around and I showed him a little more of Örebro. We ended up at the train station just chilling and snacking on some food we bought. There were some other kids there too and they randomly began talking to us and so we talked to them too. The train station closed and we went with the kids to a café that was open late, I had never seen it before and so it was pretty cool to find out about this place. We took the bus home and watched a movie and ate some icecream before going to sleep! Good day.
